Spaced (1999 - 2001)

The housing market can be difficult and so Daisy Steiner (Jessica Hynes née Stephenson, Twenty Twelve) and Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World's End) move into a flat pretending to be a couple. With frequent references to popular culture and recreational drug use the programme has a distinct link to the contemporary subcultures of its time.

The surreal at times psychedelic feel of the show is underlined by it visual style and the dance music, giving it the feel of a rave in a gaming arcade. Characters are playing console games whilst having witty and sarcastic exchanges and wearing costumes for their next art exhibition. Scenes from dreams and reality often blend and mimic each other, for example when a character starts to dance to rave music to the traffic lights causing a minor traffic jam.
