Marty (1968 - 1969)

After Marty Feldman's great success starring in At Last the 1948 Show the BBC commissioned a comedy programme centred on him. The second series in 1969 ran under the title It's Marty. Feldman is rightfully acclaimed for his comic genius, excellent timing, and great talent for slapstick, on top of all that he also contributed to this and other programmes as a writer. The class sketch that was performed by John Cleese (Monty Python's Flying Circus), Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett (The Two Ronnies) in order of their height is said to have been written by Feldman. He suffered from Graves' disease, an autoimmune disease that caused his characteristic protruding eyes, a condition that was made worse by a botched operation, as a consequence of which his eyes were also misaligned. As a performer he used this to great effect and the unique facial expressions he could achieve were an inherent part of his stage persona.
