Rowan Atkinson (Blackadder, Not the Nine O'Clock News) plays the part of the title character Mr. Bean who rarely speaks and often displays child-like behaviour. The general style emulates the humor found in silent films, pantomime and at times also reminds of Jacques Tati films.
The programme spawned an animated series, two feature films and an appearance in the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics.
