The Benny Hill Show was a world-wide success running in more than 140 countries. Each episode is a sequence of sketches, jokes and skits, often burlesque and at times a bit lewd. The images and general tone resemble the humor found on traditional English seaside postcards. Influences of the English music hall tradition (akin to American vaudeville) are present throughout the programme.
